HOLIDAY SWEATERS NOT SO UGLY

My ugly sweaters turned out cute.
Made of felt and embellished with beads, ribbon, lace and charms, the Christmas ornaments about the size of my palm make a fashion statement far from the category of “ugly.” They turned out so charming, I would wear them myself if they fit.

But then again “ugly” has turned into “creative” when choosing what to wear to the annual Christmas sweater parties. Garments feature peppermint buttons, “Bah Humbug” sayings, fake Santa suit belts and fur, jingling gold bells, merry ties, polka dotted aprons, embroidered candy canes, holiday lights and holly. Fashion choices that appear obnoxious to on-line shoppers become charming in a room all together.
Most guests secretly like the garments they choose to wear, and matching the crazy ribbons, hideous colors, and goofy themes with various personalities filling up their plates with tasty hors d’oeuvres makes for a festive evening.

I’m OK if my tree ornament style exudes charm and sophistication instead of intentional tacky. As for the trend of “ugly sweaters,” I say the more the merrier at Christmas. Festive clothes spread creativity and holiday cheer at parties and on the tree.
