SAY ‘YES’ TO CRAFTING

Sometime "yes" is all you need to say on Valentine's Day.

Sometime “yes” is all you need to say.

SAY ‘YES’ TO CRAFTING

When my sisters, mom and I were together for the holidays, we sat around the dining room table and took turns rattling off our New Year’s resolutions.

We each resolved to spend more time doing hobbies we enjoy: genealogy, writing, painting furniture and art.

Not one of us mentioned crafting, which was our number one resoution for 2012.

“Aren’t we going to continue crafting?” I asked, as my mother poured more coffee into our holiday mugs.

In unison, the answer was “YES.”

We no longer have to declare sewing and knitting as a resolution. They are a part of our daily lives and routines.

Not long after we left the table, my neice wanted to show us how to make a rose out of an old T-shirt. We sat together cutting flowers out of fabric and watching her go to work with her glue gun to produce beautiful rose pins. I wore mine. Someone else put hers on a wine bottle cover. Someone else set her rose against a pitcher for display.

The impromptu project was fun and inspiring. Afterwards, we had time to disperse. Two sisters went shopping in search of furniture to paint. My mom sketched something in a notebook. I sat down with my laptop and wrote an essay for writer’s group.

Later, we gathered again in the den.

“Can you pass me that magazine?” my sister asked my mom.

“Pass me one, too,” I said.

Once again we were thumbing through knitting magazines looking at patterns and searching for ideas.

QUESTION: WHAT CAN YOU LEARN FROM A YEAR OF CRAFTING WITH FAMILY?
LESSON ON WEEK 32: Crafting doesn’t have to be a full-time occupation.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: What are some ways to combine crafting with other hobbies?

PROGRESS: Scrabble “YES” listed on Etsy for Valentine’s Day — or as a reminder to continue crafting.

First Anniversary — Notecards Feature Original Paintings

Notecard a gift of flowers.

ChatterboxBeach is celebrating our 1st Anniversary throughout August by highlighting some of our top-selling items and the paper gifts we offer. After all, etiquette says paper is the way to observe a first anniversary!

An assortment of notecards is a thoughtful way to mark a first anniversary. ChatterboxBeach offers a variety of notecards featuring pictures of original watercolor paintings by North Carolina artist Anne Waller. The cards are blank inside, allowing you to add your own special message. They come with an envelope and are packaged in resealable plastic bags. The cards, which measure 5- by 7-inches, also look nice on display.

As a bridesmaid or a friend, I always like to send a little paper something to a bride on her first anniversary. The blank notecards wrapped in a special ribbon are just right for sending the message “I’m thinking of you” on your first anniversary!

I also like to include notecards in care packages for college freshmen or give them to friends on their birthday or when they have something unexpected to celebrate.

ChatterboxBeach wants to thank our customers for a great first year. We look forward to highlighting our paper gift products throughout the month.

Bulletin Boards Ripe for the Pickin’

A while back, I asked my husband to get me a bulletin board for my kitchen. I needed a new place to put the notes, pictures, postcards and reminders that were falling off the refrigerator doors each time someone wanted to browse for a snack. He was so kind. He went out and bought me a nice functional board that solved my problem

This tangerine caught my eye.

but looks like it should be hanging in an office. If I had waited a few more months, I could have gotten a more decorative, hand-painted board from

A pomegranate looks nice in a kitchen.

MamaA. She started making a variety of hand-painted bulletin boards that are the perfect place to post reminders, grocery lists, recipes, and notes of all kinds. The boards are decorative, yet functional, and measure 11- by 14 inches. She has painted lemons, pomegranates and pears. My favorite board features a bright orange tangerine. The boards install easily with self-stick pads, which are included. They make great gifts. Browse our Etsy website for more gift ideas at http://www.etsy.com/shop/chatterboxbeach.
